Flood in Bagmati River

Swollen Bagmati River wreaked havoc on the settlements of landless squatters in several places in the Kathmandu Valley after torrential rainfall on Monday night. Hundreds of people have been directly affected by the floods in the biggest river in the Kathmandu Valley.Because of a sudden increase in rain and the aggravation of weather the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Flood Forecasting Section has issued a flood warning to people across Nepal. The statement released by the Flood Forecasting section has asked “The residence of people living near banks of Kankai, Bhotekoshi, Bagmati, Narayani, kaligandaki, Arun Khola (Nawalparasi), Binaya Khola (Nawalparasi), Tinau, West Rapti, Babai, Bheri, Karnali, Mohana river near banks particulary in Terai District are requested to be in very high alert condition.” It also added “The residence of People living in hilly region of those river basins are also requested to be safe from possible landslide and local flooding if you are in high slope or near river banks of local rivers.”
