Speaker Onsari Gharti, who has been drawn into controversy for prioritizing the no-confidence motion over the financial bills related to the budget, has intensified political meetings. Speaker Gharti met with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Wednesday morning. According to the Speakers’ Secretariat, Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Speaker Gharti held talks on executing the House business as per the consensus of the political parties. At the meeting held in Dahal’s residence in Lazimpat, Dahal urged the Speaker to create conducive environment for consensus among the political parties, said Speaker’s press advisor Babin Sharma. “The Speaker urged both the leaders to create conducive environment for consensus among the political parties,” Sharma said, “Both the leaders have assured the Speaker that they would do their best to create the environment for consensus among the political parties.”

According to Sharma, in the meeting with both the leaders, the Speaker said she would reschedule the House business as per the consensus among the parties. But if there is no consensus among the parties she would be compelled to move ahead as per the House business schedule fixed earlier. In a bid to forge consensus, Gharti held a meeting with the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday. Currently, she is holding talks with President Bidya Devi Bhandari. Onsari has intensified political meetings after PM Oli told her not to take any controversial decisions yesterday.
