10 Trade Unions Calls For Nation Wide Strike Demanding Better Wages

Posted by Anup Baral September 2nd, 2016 : Hundreds of workers in banking, telecom and other sectors will go on strike today to press their demand for better pay and in protest against new labour and investment policies. They have objected to the government loosening the norms for foreign investment in areas like insurance and defence. They are also opposed to a plan to close loss-making state-run firms. In a bid to appease them, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that the government will release state employees' bonuses for the last two years, and increase minimum wages for unskilled labourers. However, trade unions including the AITUC and Centre of Indian Trade Unions have rejected the government appeal to call off the strike, saying it failed to address their demands.
The Trade Unions which are centrally affiliated with the left are going on strike across India to protest against Government's anti labour policy. India Today into news television.
