Barack Obama congratulates Nepalis on Constitution Day

Posted by Anup Baral September 19, 2016 : The United States President Barack Obama on Sunday congratulated all Nepalis on the occasion of the first Constitution Day, which Nepal is celebrating on Monday. The US President wrote to his Nepali counterpart President Bidya Devi Bhandari on the eve of Constitution anniversary to extend his wishes, according to a statement issued by the US Embassy in Kathmandu. In his message, Obama said, “On this auspicious day, I want to assure you that the United States remains committed to advancing our relationship and helping Nepal achieve a brighter future, including the growth of Nepal’s hydropower potential, the development of its infrastructure, and the pursuit of justice for all affected by the tragic conflict.”
Obama referred to the devastating earthquake that rattled Nepal on April 25, 2015 and said, “We stand with you and all Nepalis who refuse to let tragedy overcome the desire for a better future.” “The United States will always admire the strength of Nepalis who have rebuilt their homes and their lives, and we will continue to do everything we can to support you in this effort.” The message concludes, “Democracies form natural bonds and we look forward to strengthening that bond in the years ahead.”
