Supreme Court allows govt to recommend new ambassadors

Posted by Anup Baral September 5th, 2016 : The Supreme Court on Sunday vacated its stay order, paving way for the government to recommend new ambassadors to fill vacant diplomatic positions. A division bench of Justices Gopal Parajuli and Ananda Mohan Bhattarai today vacated the August 17 order, in which the apex court had observed that the government keep the decision in the status quo, which in effect would not have let the government to take any decision about the issue until a further decision. But, the division bench today observed that the stay order was not necessary as the plaintiffs did not have any position to claim their rights over the positions under question (ambassadors) as they were yet to be appointed. It further added that they could not be able to assume the positions even if the stay order was issued as they had demanded. The bench was responding to a petition filed by four ambassadorial nominees, whose names were later withdrawn by the government after CPN Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal was elected the Prime Minister.
Those moving the court were Yuvraj Karki (recommended for South Korea), Shiv Maya Tumbahamphe (Israel), Khadga Bahadur KC (Japan) and Narad Bhardwaj (Sri Lanka). They were among 14 persons who were recommended by the erstwhile KP Sharma Oli-led government in April for the diplomatic appointment at various Nepali outposts. But, on August 5, two days after the government change, the Cabinet had withdrawn their names claiming the nominees, who were apparently loyal to the constituent parties of former ruling coalition, were not relevant in the changed political context. They had named the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Legislature-Parliament Secretariat and Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee as defendants in the case.

Guide of the month: January 2018

Traveling gives us the opportunity to disconnect from our regular life. You get to forget your problems/issues for a few weeks, it can also help you figure things out that you would not have understood without the distance traveling can give you. We all have crazy schedules, work and a family to take care of, going away alone or with some friends can give you distance and perhaps even make you realize how important these people are for you. Like the saying says: we never know what we have until we lose it.

Another great benefit is the relaxation you get to do. It’s nice to live life to its fullest and enjoy a stress free time with yourself. Going on vacation lets us recharge our “batteries” by disconnecting us from our regular life. When we come back we feel invigorated and we are happy to be back in our day to day routine. It’s a very good stress remover that has a lot more to give than most people are willing to accept.

Traveling increases our knowledge and widens our perspective. To view new customs, different ways of living is fantastic for the mind. It gives us a new perspective about life and especially our life, it can help us change some of our habits or even create new ones. When I travel I usually make it a point to try new food, some cultures don’t have fries in their diet and they are all skinny, others use spices to give taste and not oils or fats. Discovering different values and ways to get by in life is really interesting. You also need to visit exotic new places and discover what this wonderful world has to offer.
