Pashupati Aryaghat electric cremation service stopped working

Posted by Anup Baral July 26, 2017 :
Pashupati Area Development Trust (PADT) has formally started providing electric cremation service at the Pashupati Aryaghat area from Sunday. With the service, dead bodies can now be incinerated in 55 minutes, which would otherwise take 5-6 hours if done in firewood. The service will be available round the clock. Construction of the electric crematorium, which had begun with the budget of Rs 110 million, was finally completed after five years. The crematorium can incinerate 40 dead bodies per day, which is the normal inflow of dead bodies under normal circumstances, informed PADT. "We are providing environment-friendly service at affordable price," said Govinda Tondon, member-secretary of PADT. It would cost Rs 3,000 to incinerate a dead body in the electric crematorium. Those wanting to use the traditional method would not be forced to use the electric cremation service. "We will make people use electric cremation service only through awareness. They will not be forced," said Ramesh Kumar Upreti, executive director of PADT. People wanting to use traditional way to incinerate dead bodies of their beloved ones have to pay the usual price of Rs 10,000 per body. About 5,000 to 6,000 tons of firewood is consumed in Pashupati Aryaghat each day. Burning firewood has negatively affected the environment. Ashes and remains of firewood are being flooded directly into Bagmati River, triggering environmental concerns. "Electric cremation is a big step towards keeping Pashupati area clean," added Tandan. He informed they received 11 orders for electric cremation till late Sunday. The service was launched by Aanand Prashad Pokhrel, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.

Guide of the month: January 2018

Traveling gives us the opportunity to disconnect from our regular life. You get to forget your problems/issues for a few weeks, it can also help you figure things out that you would not have understood without the distance traveling can give you. We all have crazy schedules, work and a family to take care of, going away alone or with some friends can give you distance and perhaps even make you realize how important these people are for you. Like the saying says: we never know what we have until we lose it.

Another great benefit is the relaxation you get to do. It’s nice to live life to its fullest and enjoy a stress free time with yourself. Going on vacation lets us recharge our “batteries” by disconnecting us from our regular life. When we come back we feel invigorated and we are happy to be back in our day to day routine. It’s a very good stress remover that has a lot more to give than most people are willing to accept.

Traveling increases our knowledge and widens our perspective. To view new customs, different ways of living is fantastic for the mind. It gives us a new perspective about life and especially our life, it can help us change some of our habits or even create new ones. When I travel I usually make it a point to try new food, some cultures don’t have fries in their diet and they are all skinny, others use spices to give taste and not oils or fats. Discovering different values and ways to get by in life is really interesting. You also need to visit exotic new places and discover what this wonderful world has to offer.
